In 1860 (Man'en 1), the Sakuradamon Incident occurred in Japan, causing great upheaval in the political situation at the end of the Edo period. Meanwhile, overseas, the movement for Italian unification progressed, Lincoln was elected as president of the United States, and the movement for the formation of modern nations accelerated all over the world. In this same year, Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville of France succeeded in physically recording the waveforms of sound for the first time, marking the birth of the first sound recording in human history.

In April 1860 (Man'en 1), the Sakuradamon Incident rocked Japan's shogunate government, and the debate over opening the country to the outside world and expelling foreigners intensified. In the same month, Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville of France became the first person in the world to physically record sound, creating the first recorded audio. Overseas, on the eve of the American Civil War, Lincoln's actions drew attention, and countries around the world were making progress toward modernization.
